Oven Baked Onion Rings

This version of the onion ring is the healthier one, because they are baked in the oven instead of fried in oil.

They’re crunchy and delicious with your favorite sauce. I liked them the most with ketchup. The sweetness of the ketchup was really nice with the baked onion flavor. This is a great snack to put on your next tapas table.

What do you need?

  • 1 large onion, cut into rings
  • 100 gr (3,5 oz) flour
  • 3 proteins
  • 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise
  • 200 gr (7 oz) breadcrumbs
  • Baking spray

How to make it?

Preheat your oven to 220 °C or 430 °F (200 °C or 390 °F hot air).

Take a large bowl and fill this with water, put the onion rings in it.

Take 3 smaller bowls. In the first one you put the flour, in the second one you put the breadcrumbs.

The third you add the 3 egg whites and mayonnaise and stir this together with a fork, until it forms a whole.

Prepare a baking tray, line it with baking paper. Spray the baking paper with baking spray.

Now take the onion ring out of the water, one by one and shake off the water. Go with the onion ring, through the flour first, then the egg white mixture and finally the breadcrumbs.

Place the onion ring on the baking paper. Repeat these steps for each onion ring.

At last, spray the onion rings with baking spray and put them in the oven.

Let fry for 10 minutes, then turn the onion rings and fry for another 5 minutes.

Serve with them your favorite sauce.
