Cauliflower Broccoli Gratin
A real autumn dish, delicious to serve with a nice piece of meat and potatoes. You can also make this in individual oven dishes, this is a great way to serve this dish when you have people over.
What do you need?
- 400 gr (14 oz) cauliflower
- 400 gr (14 oz) broccoli
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 3 tablespoons of flour
- 350 ml (12 oz) of milk
- 100 gr (3,5 oz) of grated cheese
- Pepper, salt and nutmeg to taste
- 50 gr (1,7 oz) extra cheese (for the au gratin)
How to make it?
Preheat the oven to 220 °C or 430 °F (200 °C or 390 °F hot air)
Cook the broccoli and cauliflower until tender. Divide these over an oven dish.
Melt the butter in a saucepan, then add the flour and stir it through the butter. Add milk little by little to the flour mixture and stir until it is incorporated into the flour. Continue until the milk is finished. (a white roux).
Bring to the boil while stirring, the white sauce will now thicken. Add the cheese and stir until melted.
Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.
Pour the sauce over the cauliflower and broccoli. Sprinkle with cheese.
Leave to cook for 10-15 minutes in the oven until the cheese has melted and has a nice brown crust.
