Sushi Cakes

Sushi is something I can eat every week, actually more often. That is why it is nice to have several variants of how to prepare or serve it.

This sushi pie is actually very easy to make, but I personally think it’s a great presentation. Especially if you have people over for dinner, this is ideal as a starter.

What do you need?

  • 250 gr (8,8 oz)sushi rice
  • 3 tablespoons of rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar
  • 1 mango, cut into pieces
  • 1 avocado, cut into pieces
  • ½ cucumber, cut into pieces
  • 300 gr (10,8 oz) salmon fillet, cut into pieces
  • Roasted sesame seeds
  • 2 nori sheets
  • Wasabi mayonnaise

How to make it?

Rinse your sushi rice under running water until the water that comes out under it, is clear.

Put the sushi rice in a small cooking pot and add 500 ml (17,6 oz) of water.

Bring to a boil and reduce heat when water is boiling. Cook for 10 minutes or until the water is gone.

Remove from the heat and let it rest, covered, for another 10 minutes.

Take a small bowl and add the rice vinegar and sugar. Pour this over the sushi rice and mix it with the rice.

Take a decorating ring and cut out the nori circles the size of the ring.

Place the nori on a plate and place the ring over it. Put 3 tablespoons of rice in the ring and press it down.

Then you put a layer of cucumber on the rice, then a layer of avocado, a layer of mango and finally a layer of salmon pieces.

Sprinkle some more crumbled nori, that’s left over, on top of the salmon, then a little sesame seeds and a little wasabi mayonnaise.

Repeat these steps for the other cakes.

Bon Appetit!
