FUN with Kids: Oven Baked Halloween Mini Donuts

A fun activity to do with your kids around Halloween. This is the basic recipe for oven baked donuts. The icing is colored with food coloring and then sprinkled with Halloween sprinkles.

What do you need?

  • 1 cup or 120 g flour
  • 1/3 cup or 70 g of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 2 tablespoons or 28 g unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup + 1 ½ tablespoon or 100 ml of milk

Vanilla frosting:

  • ½ cup or 80 g powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Pinches of salt
  • 1 or 2 tablespoons of milk

Decoration

  • Halloween sprinkles (I used from Wilton)

How to make it?

Preheat the oven to 350°F or 180 °C (160 °C hot air).

Spray your donut pan with baking spray and let it sit for a while.

In a large bowl, combine all the drying ingredients, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt, stir them together.

In a small bowl you put all other ingredients, unsalted butter, egg, vanilla extract and milk. Also stir well so that it forms a nice whole.

Now add the ingredients from the small bowl to the large one and stir well so that you get a nice batter. You can do this with a pan scraper.

Put your batter in a piping bag. If you don’t have this you can also use a freezer bag and cut a small hole in one of the corners.

Pipe the dough into the donut pan, fill each donut mold for ¾, they will still rise in the oven.

Put your donut pan in the oven. Bake 10 minutes for mini donuts and 15 minutes for large donuts. When they turn light brown, they are ready.

Remove them from the donut pan and let them cool on a cool rack.

Take a bowl in which you put the icing sugar and add vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. First add a spoonful of milk and then little by little. If you like a solid, thick icing, don’t use too much milk. Add the food coloring and stir well until all the icing is colored.

Dab each donut in the icing and sprinkle the Halloween sprinkles on top. Let it rest for a while so the icing can get a bit harder.

Bon Appetit!
