Chinese Spring Rolls
I guess the fact that we’re crazy about Asian food you already know by now. That’s why I also wanted to make the fried spring rolls, not with rice dough this time, I have already made these another time. But with spring roll dough as you probably know them from Chinese restaurants restaurant.
These kind of recipes are scaring some people to try them. But there is actually no reason for it. . You do need some time, but it is not really difficult. I have also included clear pictures of how to roll them up nicely.
What do you need?
- 20 spring roll dough sheets (I used freezer)
- 200 gr (7 oz) bamboo shoots (canned)
- 2 tablespoons of sesame oil
- 2 spring onions, sliced
- 150 gr (5,3 oz) grated carrots
- 200 gr (7 oz) cut white cabbage
- 200 gr (7 oz) minced meat
- 1 tablespoon of corn starch
- 2 tablespoons of water
- 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce
- Corn oil for baking
How to make it?
Defrost your egg roll dough, I put it in the microwave. After defrosting, I put a slightly wet towel on top of the spring roll dough so that it doesn’t dry out and get hard.
Boil the bamboo shoots in water for 2 minutes, this way the smell of the bamboo shoots goes away.
Cut the bamboo shoots into pieces.
Fry the minced meat in a wok pan. Push it apart so that you get small pieces. Remove from the wok pan and set aside.
Now heat the sesame oil and fry the vegetables, grated carrots, white cabbage, bamboo shoots and spring onions.
When the vegetables are done, add the meat and the oyster sauce. Push your vegetables and meat to the side of your wok, so that nothing is left in the middle.
Mix the cornstarch with the water and pour it into the center of your wok pan. Let it thicken while stirring and then mix it with the vegetables.
Remove your vegetables from the wok and spread it over a larger surface (like a cutting plants or a large plate). Let it cool for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, heat a pot with vegetable oil, put it on medium heat.
Now take a spring roll dough sheet and place it with a point down, spoon 1 to 2 tablespoons of the vegetable filling on the spring roll dough.
Look at the pictures how the dough should be rolled up. When you are at the step where you have almost rolled up the dough and you still have a triangle at the top, then wet this piece of the dough with a little water.
Now roll up further. Do not put the spring rolls that are ready to close together.
Fry the spring rolls in the oil until they are nice golden brown (about 5 minutes).
Serve with sweet chili sauce.
