Turkish Pide With Minced Meat

Pide is the Turkish counterpart of the Italian pizza. This version of the Turkish pide has a delicious combination of minced meat with delicious sweet raisins.

The Greek yogurt that you serve with it provides a wonderfully fresh touch. An ideal dish for the hot summer days. But to be honest, I also make this in winter. It’s just so good.

What do you need?

  • 1 roll of non-sweet pie dough or 1 portion of homemade non- sweet pie dough
  • 300 gr (10 oz) minced meat
  • 70 gr (2,5 oz) tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons of dried oregano
  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 2 clove of Garlic, minced
  • 200 gr (7 oz) fresh spinach leaves
  • 50 gr (1,5 oz) raisins
  • 1 jar of Greek style yogurt
  • Salt and pepper to taste

How to make it?

Preheat your oven to 180 °C or 350 °F (160 °C or 320°F hot air). Take out the oven plates and cover them with baking paper.

Fry the onion in oil for 2 minutes, add the minced garlic while you are frying the onion.

Add the tomato paste and oregano to the onion and fry it for 2 minutes.

Add the minced meat, stir this under the onion tomato puree. Use a fork to easily flatten the ground beef and push into smaller pieces. Fry all this until the minced meat is cooked.  Season with salt and paprika.

Put this in a separate bowl. Then fry the spinach in the same frying pan. Make sure you do this on lower heat. The spinach can burn quickly. Fry this for 1-2 minutes and then add to the minced meat.

Add the raisins and put it all together.

Cut oval shapes out of your dough or roll an oval shape out of your homemade dough. Poke holes in the center of the dough with a fork, not the edges.

Divide the minced meat mixture over the dough, but make sure that the edges remain free.

Roll up the edges and turn the ends into a point. Do not forget to put a little bit of oil on the edges.

Place the Pide in the oven and bake for 20 – 30 minutes. Serve with Greek style yogurt.
