Onion Cheese Bread

A delicious winter bread that goes perfect with a tasty soup.

Because you bake the onion first, it has a nice sweet taste, the cheese on top makes the bread look really nice and it gives it a delicious melted cheese taste.

What do you need?

  • 300 gr (10,58 oz) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 25 gr (0,88 oz) unsalted butter
  • 15 gr (0,53 oz) bread improver
  • 6 gr (0,21 oz) salt
  • 8 gr (0,28 oz) of instant dry yeast
  • 160 ml lukewarm water
  • 1 large onion
  • 50 gr (1,76 oz) + 25 gr (0,88 oz) grated cheese
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil

How to make it?

Weigh all ingredients and put in a bowl, knead for 10 minutes with the dough hook of your stand mixer or with your hands.

Prepare a bowl and grease it with olive oil. When the dough is ready, make a ball of the dough and roll it around in the pot so that the dough ball is covered with oil.

Cover the jar with plastic wrap or a clean dry kitchen towel. Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free place for 1 hour.

Cut the onion into pieces and fry it on medium heat. Do not set your stove too high, the onion will brown too quickly and it is more likely that it will burn and you will taste this in your bread. So fry on a lower heat until it looks nice and brown.

You can bake your bread in a long cake tin or use bread tin. Grease the mold with olive oil.

Grease your surface with olive oil and pour the dough on it. Flatten the tips with your finger so that you push the air out.

Divide the onion over the flat pressed dough, then divide 50 gr (1,76 oz) cheese over the onion.

Roll up the dough so that you get a long shape. You put this roll in your baking tin.

Divide the remaining 25 gr (0,88 oz) cheese over the bread.

Cover and let rise again for 1 hour.

Preheat your oven to 170 °C or 340 °F (150 °C or 300°F for hot air).

Bake the bread for 40 minutes until it is nicely browned. Remove from oven and let cool on a cooling rack.

Bon Appetit!
