Apple Turnovers

These apple turnovers are not only super easy to make, they’re delicious to.

I made them with two different toppings, a small change but it gives a completely different taste. If you like almonds, I definitely recommended you to try it. Those with sugar taste just like the ones you get at the baker, a real classic apple turnover.

The advantage of baking them yourself is, you can eat them when they are still warm, something we really like. But they are also great if you serve them completely cooled off. So both ways they are really great.

What do you need?

  • 10 slices of puff pastry (square shape from the freezer)
  • 2 apples, peeled and cut
  • 50gr (2 oz) of raisins
  • 2 tablespoons of apricot jam
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
  • Fine granulated sugar for sprinkling
  • Almond flakes (optional)
  • Extra apricot jam (for almond flakes)

How to make it?

Preheat the oven to 390°F or 200 °C (350°F or 180 °C hot air). Take your baking tray’s out of the oven.

Remove the puff pastry slices from the freezer and place them on a baking tray covered with baking paper so they can already thaw. Remove the paper that is between each puff pastry slice.

Take a medium sized bowl and add the apple, apricot jam, cornstarch and cinnamon powder and mix well with a spoon.

Divide the apple mixture over the slices of puff pastry (only on 1 half so you can fold them). 1 big tablespoon is enough, not too much otherwise you can’t fold them anymore.

Fold the puff pastry into triangles or just fold double, which you prefer. It is important there is not too much filling so you can still press the edges together. I do this with the help of a fork.

Brush the apple turnover. The once you want with sprinkled sugar, you brush with water. I do this with a kitchen brush. Sprinkle fine granulated sugar on top.

For the once with almond flakes, brush with apricot jam and place almond flakes on top.

Place the oven trays with apple turnovers in the oven and bake for 15 – 20 minutes until the top is nicely browned.

Let them cool down on a cooling rack. If you like them warm inside, serve after 10 minutes.

Bon Appetit!
